Love The Hawkeyes!

Last fall, a Des Moines Register article on Iowa's starting quarterback, CJ Beathard, and his faith, also featured our son, Jay... Read article...  A simple phone call and all that transpired thereafter has poured more strength and courage into our family (at much needed times) and especially in (and through) Jay than I'm sure will ever be known.

As football season winds up, we honor and respect CJ not just for incredible talent and hard work but for character and love for Jesus Christ.

We are cheering on ALL the Iowa Hawkeyes as always this year and looking forward to this coming football season.

Jay texted these words to CJ last week:

“You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You. So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭26:3-4‬ ‭AMP

A great promise for every one of us!

Four Years in our Four Winds (RV)

It's hard to believe it's been four years exactly since the first blog entry and this upstream journey began.  The cycles of finding ourselves overwhelmed by life's circumstances and in the next moment finding ourselves overwhelmed by God's goodness and victory keep rolling.   At first, our eyes might have been set on what we would SEE in our travels, but  we've discovered it's been much more of a journey in the realm of what we can't  see with our eyes and struggle to articulate.  (Hebrews 11:1   “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”)

As the illusions of safety, stability, security and comfort have faded, we've had the privilege of learning to live in the real presence of the great Protector, Defender, the Rock, our Provider,  Comforter and Healer!  We all could tell unending stories of miraculous things that only God could have orchestrated. We've met countless amazing people across the country and love EVERY ONE!!    It's been truly amazing and it still feels like the journey has just begun.  In case you are curious, our future plans are written in James 4:13-14.

Living Water

“whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.””

‭‭John‬ ‭4:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The Fight

““I do live in the world. But I don't fight my battles the way the people of the world do. The weapons I fight with are not the weapons the world uses. In fact, it is just the opposite. My weapons have the power of God to destroy the camps of the enemy. I destroy every claim and every reason that keeps people from knowing God. I keep every thought under control in order to make it obey Christ.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:3-5‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Rooted!

We've been enjoying watching some of the Olympics this year. Loved the interview with David Boudia and Steele Johnson after they won the silver. Watch here.. In response to why he was so calm, Steele told NBC, "...the fact that I was going into this event knowing that my identity is rooted in Christ and not what the result of this competition is just gave me peace ... and it let me enjoy the contest," Johnson told NBC. "If something went great, I was happy. If something didn't go great, I could still find joy..."

Same spirit in gymnist Laurie Hernandez...and it's clear that glowing smile is not just for competition but is an overflow of what God is doing in her heart.  Read article.  We've loved watching athletes over the years that know this peace and power in Christ. I know there are many others on this Olympic team I didn't mention. While it's been fun to watch the physical feats achieved, it's been even more fun to see the power and glory of God on display.

John 14:21 says “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him."”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:21‬ ‭ESV‬‬

MANIFEST!.. All the the creative, powerful, healing, loving and uncountable attributes of God will "show up" in the lives of those who give themselves wholeheartedly to Him. Not for the glory of the person but so all those around can also visibly see and encounter God. It's so awesome. It's not about athletics (which tend to be more in the public eye) but simply God making himself known through an infinite number of ways according to  individual interests and need, whether in the spotlight on earth or only seen by heaven.   Whether you call out to Him in a sports arena or in the middle of the night in your bed.  ALL who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Joel 2:32)

We have loved watching each of our teens, entering what is often turbulent years of life trying to establish identity, instead having their identity "rooted in Christ" and filled with peace and joy no matter the circumstance.  Hungry to serve God in various ways He has called them to.  Our children are such an encouragement to us!

Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The Great Shepherd

Jay and Maizy (short for Amazing Joy) the alpaca at Wagonmaster RV Park

"The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:1-6‬ ‭NLT‬‬
