Roadschool Today: Time with Mayor Price

We sat at Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price's meeting room table this afternoon as she warmly answered questions from each of the kids.

Our main takeaways from our time with her after hearing her heart and stories...LOVE GOD AND PRAY FOR WISDOM,  BE PASSIONATE ABOUT LOVING PEOPLE, THINK BIG AND ACT ON IT!
(It was inspiring to meet a politician who exemplifies all this.)
When we stepped off the elevator we were greeted by a precious woman, a total beacon of light in that place, whose name I believe was Katherine-(will try to find out). I wish we would have gotten a picture with her as well as she made us feel so welcome and spoke encouragement into each of the children individually regarding their future and interests. What a gift!
We had a little time to hang out in  the downtown water gardens afterwards.

Memories: Last Thanksgiving and Winter 2016

After spending the past few months thinking we had lost a year's worth of pictures (restored thankfully!) thought we should preserve a few favorites here.

Last winter at Grandpa and Grandmas acreage before it was sold last spring...

Our Book Nook

One of the best moments of every day... Squishing in their bed above the cab and reading.

Or sometimes we just find them reading together in the night...

Time With a Great Painter

Today was the last day of the exhibit of world- renown modern impressionistic painter Henrietta Milan at the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas.  All of her paintings are done with knives and inspired mostly inspired by her European travels- many from Claude Monet's gardens. Photos were not allowed in the museum but since we unexpectedly "happened" to meet Mrs. Milan herself and visit with her awhile, we got the ultimate permission to get a family photo with her in front of one of her works.

It was fun to swap travel stories and hear from her son Tal about his growing up on the road in Europe.  Mrs. Milan was also a champion gymnast (almost qualified for Olympics) in the 50's and also spent many years coaching top level gymnasts. We love all the incredible people that "happen" to become our friends along the journey.

We actually  haven't met a person yet that isn't totally amazing. Some diamonds may dazzle brighter at first glance but others in the rough are just as sparkly after some chipping away and polishing.  All are created in the image of God.  Every friendship, new and old, is a cherished treasure.

On Faith and Football

Last fall, a Des Moines Register article on Iowa's starting quarterback, CJ Beathard, and his faith, also featured our son, Jay... Read article...  A simple phone call and all that transpired thereafter has poured more timely strength and courage into our family in and through Jay than I'm sure will ever be known.

As football season starts up, we honor and respect CJ not just for incredible talent and hard work but for character and love for Jesus Christ.

Jay texted this to CJ last week:

“You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You. So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭26:3-4‬ ‭AMP

A great promise for every one of us!

We are cheering on ALL the Iowa Hawkeyes as always this year and looking forward to this coming football season.
